Illustrated by Maurice Sendak (1928-2012), a children's book author and illustrator best known for the enduring story "Where the Wild Things Are" (published 1964), among almost countless others. Half title, illus. Orig. red cloth. White pictorial d.w., unclipped. Presentation inscription 'For Ellery Yale Wood, Maurice Sendak, Ruth Krauss' on leading f.e.p. A v.g. bright copy. 43pp. First published New York, 1958. Krauss listened to children's ideas and gently shaped them for publication alongside Sendak's wonderful, whimsical drawings. The book works so well because it is respectful of children's stories and viewpoint. Ellery Yale Wood was a children's book collector whose collection now resides at Bryn Mawr College.
