Laid in is the publication announcement, as well as an unopened letter postmarked June 27, 1984 from the A.K. Smiley Public Library addressed to Mrs. Everett Hager with the handwritten notation. "E.I. Edwards obit." written across the top of the envelope. 4to. (27 cm.) xiii, 306p. Index. Tan cloth with the title in gilt on a black field on the spine. No noticeable wear to extremities, covers clean and bright, gilt bright, else fine with no internal markings. Box ever so slightly shelfworn. Elza Ivan "Eddie" Edwards (1897-1984) was born in Idaho in 1897. Later he moved to California where he opened an accounting advisory service for medical offices. Edwards? hobby was Death Valley history and he was the author of several books including The Valley Whose Name is Death, Desert Voices: A Descriptive Bibliography (1958), and The Enduring Desert. He was an active member of the Los Angeles Corral of the Westerners and served as Sheriff in 1966. In 1964, he and his wife, Beryl, retired and moved to Yucca Valley, California.
