Includes a chapter on Harvey Logan and the Wild Bunch and a chapter on women escapees. 364 pages. NO DUST JACKET. Book Condition: Good. The mottled spine is cocked with bumping and fraying on the ends. The front board shows a rub near the top edge and some spots. The rear board shows slight rubbing, a small pinch and some tiny spots. The board corners are bumped with some slight rubbing. The board edges show slight rubbing. The pages are mildly toned, but are supple and unmarked. There is a partially erased penciled price in the upper right hand corner of the ffep. The page edges show slight dust darkening on the top edge, else the edges are clean. The book is securely bound. This book will be shipped after receipt of payment in an archival bag and bubble wrapped in a new box with a USPS tracking number. Black cloth, yellow stamping to spine and front cover, still bright (spine not faded), general light edge wear, a bit more so to the cover corners, clean. A slight binding lean, but otherwise tightly bound. The Preface has some erased pencil markings, cleanly done, but some light indentation visible when looking closely. Otherwise the pages of the book are clean, still bright and the books is unmarked. No dust jacket. Edward H. Smith was a criminologist and journalist who died in 1927; this book was published posthumously. Experienced full-time bookseller since 1994 (selling online since 1998). Nineteen true stories of escapes from American prisons by the noted criminologist Edward H. Smith, published posthumously. According to the preface, written by a fellow criminologist, Smith died just prior to completing the volume. Includes escapes from Sing-Sing, San Quintin, Joliet, Leavenworth, The Tombs, among others. Edward H. Smith (1885-1927) studied at the University of Kansas and the University of Jena, at the latter of which he studied under Dr. Ernst Haeckel. He was the Sunday editor of The Chicago Tribune before coming to New York in 1912. In addition to being on the staff of The New York Sunday World, he also wrote on criminology for The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, and other periodicals. His other books are Famous Poison Mysteries, Con, Mysteries of the Missing, and The New Criminology.
