Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. University of Illinois Press; Urbana, Illinois; 1982. Hard Cover. Book condition: Near Fine. Dust jacket condition: Good. Unstated edition, likely second printing with a number line of "C 5 4 3 2" on the copyright page. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. 9-1/8" tall, 437 numbered pages includes "Notes", "Bibliography" and "Index". This book is in superb condition: the exterior is square, spotlessly clean, free of corner bumps and with a small ding on the bottom edge of the front board. Spine ends and the spine itself are pristine and the gilt lettering is in 'as new' condition; hinges are strong and not damaged in any fashion. Except for an inked name/date/city on the back of the FFEP, the interior is perfectly clean and completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and any sort of paper damage. Not remaindered or ex-library but most likely a Book Club edition--the last line on the rear panel of the jacket says "A Selection of the History Book Club"; that and the lack of a price on the jacket tell me this is a Book Club book. The dust jacket is intact and is clean and free of scratches, scrapes, and fading; it has light wear along both edges and a noticeably faded spine (see photo). But worse: the jacket has masking tape on its back side--along both top and bottom edges, along both folds and along the entire spine. That tape has not affected the binding but has darkened the jacket wherever it was placed, most noticeably on the white flaps and rear panel. The jacket is now in a mylar cover.
