"For fourteen years convicted rapist Max Cady nursed his hatred for Sam Bowden into an insane passion for revenge." Light edge wear. Damp stain to the pages in the back that starts out covering half the page but quickly diminishes and fades out by page 76. The binding glue has dried and is starting to split at page 75/76. Page 75/76 is loose and laid in. Mild spine lean. Other than that the internals are clean and tight. Lightly browned pages. Still a good copy.

A 1st print (stated) of a late 1950s MacDonald suspense novel, filmed in the early 1960s as Cape Fear starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum. Black boards eighth bound in tangerine cloth with brown lettering. $3.50 price at the bottom of the front DJ flap. The DJ presents reasonably well however has a closed tear running 4" down from the top right spine hinge and then across the front panel almost to the flap fold. There is another closed tear running 3" down the front flap fold. Small loss across the top of the front panel. The internals are clean and tight. Overall a good to very good copy.

There is a bookstore (Paul Elders, San Francisco) sticker on the rear pastedown, and some difficult to eliminate pencil marks on the front end paper. This volume has black paper covered boards, one of two variants of the First Edition, with no priority established (Smiley, Firsts, 2002).

One short edge tear to lower front panel and one to the top and another to the base of the rear panel. Filmed, quite memorably, as Cape Fear.

Basis for both versions of the film "Cape Fear": one made in 1962, starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, and the 1991 remake by Martin Scorsese, starring Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, and Robert DeNiro. Near Fine in a vibrant, Near Fine dust jacket. Moderate fading to the book spine, and associated slight fading on the jacket spine, as well as some foxing on the jacket verso.
