    Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. First UK edition. Originally published in the USA the previous year by Simon and Schuster. The book has a slight spine lean and the boards have slight surface discolouration in a few places. Green lettering on spine is fairly bright. The tops of the page edges have browning and spotting and there is lighter browning and only a few small marks to the fore edges and bottom edges. Light spotting to the endpapers with a name in pen to the rear free endpaper. Quite heavy spotting to the half-title page and the equivalent page at the back of the book. Light spotting to the title page and the pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. No jacket. First printing.

Boards have some scratches or dents to the surface of the rear panel which has a bump to the top corner. Otherwise only some light edge wear. Browning to the page edges with some discolouration to the top edges. Tiny nicks to the bottom edges of the first few pages and the pages are a little browned but they are otherwise clean and unmarked. The jacket has some chipping to the edges with small pieces missing at the top of the spine and at the top right corner of the front pane. There are a few small closed tears along the top edge of the front panel with some associated creasing. Quarter inch piece missing from the top right corner of the rear flap. First printing.

A 1st print (stated) of a late 1950s MacDonald suspense novel, filmed in the early 1960s as Cape Fear starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum. Black boards eighth bound in tangerine cloth with brown lettering. $3.50 price at the bottom of the front DJ flap. The DJ presents reasonably well however has a closed tear running 4" down from the top right spine hinge and then across the front panel almost to the flap fold. There is another closed tear running 3" down the front flap fold. Small loss across the top of the front panel. The internals are clean and tight. Overall a good to very good copy.
