Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. This is Volume 34 ONLY out of a 35-volume set. This volume contains Executive Report #354, "Eighth Special Report of the Commissioner of Labor. The Housing of the Working People", prepared under the direction of Carroll D. Wright, Commissioner of Labor, by E. R. L. Gould, Ph.D. Bound in full, light brown sheepskin leather, covers are bear a blind tooled border around the edges, but are otherwise plain. Hubbed spine bears two leather labels, one in red and one in black. The black label was mistakenly added upside-down by the publisher. This copy contains illustrated inserts: diagrams, floor plans, and building designs, (many of which are fold out), in black and white. xviii, 461 pp.CONDITION: External cover shows moderate wear and leather shows stripping spots as is common with sheepskin. Hinges are starting, yet boards are still well affixed and the binding is sound. Illustrations are wonderful. Leaves have mildly toned and are generally free from foxing. Unmarked except for previous owner's and bookseller's marks within the front endpapers. A solid piece of American history. Full refund if not satisfied.

Thie is volume I of 16 and contains all the Diplomatic documents and correspondence, including foreign. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

This work contains significant and historically important government reports from the first year of the Civil War. The Civil War material includes the cost for funding the Union Army ($27 million), deployment of the Merrimack, concerns about Missouri pulling out of the Union, and the efficiency of a volunteer army. Also includes reports on conducting the 8th census, public works expenditures from 1789-1860, the condition and treatment of the Indians, and participation in the London Industrial Exposition I 1862.
