Add to basket8vo, 64 pp., somewhat browned, and with a darker brown waterstain in the upper margins, rebound in boards. First edition; a second edition appeared in 1782. John Arden (1702-1791), teacher of experimental philosophy at Beverley, possibly a graduate from Oxford. Arden taught at the Heath Academy in Wakefield, and moved in about 1750 to Beverley, Yorkshire. He gave lectures at Beverley, Birmingham and other towns before moving to Bath, where he continued to teach and lecture for many years. His son James Arden, lecturer (c. 1739-1817), edited and printed this analysis at the request of subscribers to the course "knowing that my father was too engaged in business to comply with those requests." Both editions are rare; the ESTC locates copies of this one at BL, Oxford Museum of the History of Science, Free Library of Philadelphia, and the Smithsonian.
