First Edition
First American Edition. Octavo. 23cm. Publisher's dark brown cloth titled in gilt to spine. 129pp. [2pp.] ads to rear. A little scuffing and rubbing to extremities, light bumping to spine ends, a very good, presentable copy. Internally clean, with a rather sprawling pencil ownership to the front pastedown, and a marginal paper defect to the edge of page 79, not interfering with the text. An important text in the field, from a man whose contributions to medicine and psychology are now somewhat overshadowed by the influence of his most famous work the "Psychopathia Sexualis" [1886] which became the standard foundational work on sexual pathology. Krafft-Ebing was also one of the first doctors dealing exclusively with what we would know call PTSD in military personnel, from his clinic in Baden-Baden; he coined and popularised the term "Masochism", and was arguably one of the first "serious" medical practitioners to use hypnotherapies as a staple form of treatment. [CRABTREE 1212, for the 1888 German printing].
