Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. This work was Richard Henry Horne's first publication and was released anonymously as a reaction to his own struggles with the industry. He argues that publishers should not have the power to control artistic content or let political bias dictate what is printed. To solve this, he propose…s the creation of a "Society of English Literature," a group of respected writers and thinkers who would decide which books deserve publication. Though this body was never actually formed, the book remains a notable protest against the commercial control of literature. It is dedicated to Bulwer Lytton, whom Horne describes as both a patriot and a genius. Fair Condition. Half bound in leather. Front board is detached but present. Contents are clean. Exlibrary stamp to front end paper, no other stamps. Contents are firm. Boards have some edge-wear with some notable rubbings and peeling to edges. Peeling to spine head.
