This important work of Basque genealogy contains biographical information on figures important in colonization of the New World: (he provides a list in the prologue). Of particular interest is Elorza's account of the Conquest of the province of the Ytzas in Nueva España (pp. 207, 279) in 1695 by Martín de Ursúa Arizmendi, Conde de Lizarraga Vengoa (1653, 1715), the first narration of this expedition. Ursúa y Arizmendi had offered his services to the King to open up the Camino Real between the Provinces of Yucatán and Guatemala, a route vital to the commerce of the region and which was to provide an overland link between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. To this end he reduced the Yzta Indians by force, imprisoning their king Canek. After consolidating the conquered territory and continuing the Camino Real to Guatemala, Ursúa withdrew to Yucatán and was appointed Governor and Captain General of the Provinces of Yzta, Cozumel and Tabasco. Later he became Governor and Captain General of the Philippines.
