Lehuby, Librairie de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse, Paris, 1846, XXXII-384 pp. avec 20 planches hors texte Belle provenance pour ce charmant exemplaire : de la bibliothčque du botaniste Auguste de Saint-Hilaire, avec un ex-dono autographe de ce dernier : "Donné par Auguste de S Hilaire ŕ son petit-neveu Edgar Domet comme un témoignage du plaisir avec lequel il a appris ses nouveaux [ . ] Paris 30 7bre 1847". Botaniste et explorateur français (en Amérique du Sud et notamment au Brésil), Auguste de Saint Hilaire (1779-1853) resta célibataire. Edgar Domet était le petit-fils de sa soeur Clotile-Henriette Prouvensal de Saint-Hilaire, et le fils de Léonie de Laage de Meux et de Jean-Baptiste Domet. Bon état (qq. rouss.) pour ce trčs joli cartonnage au dos historié (loup ou renard appuyé sur son bâton et chat sauvage (?) dans les frondaisons). Langue: Français.

French text with facing page Latin translation. Contents: moderate to generous spotting & browning, with a few light stains, but all text readable and pages tight. Two heart-shaped ink stamps and the number "856" stamped on half-title. Boards: moderate rubbing to edges and corners. Top and tail spine headbands restored. Spine a little rubbed, gilt still visible. Scuff mark rear board. A tight copy. 333 pp + table.

Condition: Very Good binding. Folio. 155, [1 (blank)] pp. Limited Edition, number 4 of 115 copies, signed by Chopard on the limitation page. Unbound and printed on single folios, all laid into printed wrapper with additional blank folios at front and rear of the book. This is housed in a parchment-backed chemise titled in red with a white, imitation levant-grained cloth, which is in turn enclosed in a slipcase of the same cloth and trimmed in parchmentquite a package! 12 full-page lithographs in addition to numerous in-text lithographs. The blank folios are toned from the wrapper; wrapper has a closed tear at the top of the front joint; parchment spine of the chemise is somewhat soiled; slipcase is soiled with joints that are quite weaktwo splits have been mended, but remain tender. A wonderful edition by the Gonin brothers of the 18th century French poet's fables, beautifully illustrated by Gaston Albert Chopard.
