Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 5 X 7.5 inches 246 pages. A softbound book that has been rebound as a library hardcover, with gilt type on spine. Condition GOOD. Library markings and pocket present. This book has been inscribed on the title page by "John". Possibly the author John Landquist but hard to today. The first summary description of Swedish literature in Finland from the beginning of the 19th century until these last days (1929). // The author shows that this literature has a strong peculiarity, a "uniform of the spirit", which distinguishes it from national Swedish literature, and that its importance and interest have hardly been sufficiently appreciated. This literature reflects Finland's nature, people and destinies during the last half century; a struggle with harsh realities has inspired its particular pathos and beauty. John Landquist first portrays the pioneer of realism in Finland, Karl August Tavaststjerna, an uneven but healthy poetic genius. // Under the title "The poetry of the national war years", Mikael Lybeck's sarcastic and stoic prose art, Arvid Mörner's beautiful landscape poetry and significant novel production, Bertel Gripenberg's poetry, some pieces of which, according to the author, belong to the finest gems of Swedish poetry. // In-depth research is devoted to the finely honed short stories after 1910 with Runar Schildt as the big name and the last decade's viable poetry. // Landquist dwells particularly on Jarl Hemmer and Edith Södergran, in the latter of whom he sees a lyrical genius of the first rank. From her originates the expressionist school, which represents the youngest in Finnish literature. Inscribed by Author(s).
