He taught in England and Ireland before moving to Canada in 1957 where he taught English in Nova Scotia. Birds of Fire was his only published book of poetry. The poems in it are characterized by detailed natural references, inviting comparisons with the work of Kenneth Rexroth. His work is also compared with the poetry of ancient Chinese poets.
