Second Edition; Cr. Folio; pp. xl, 928; b/w portrait, original quarter morocco wiht printed linen boards, 5 raised bands, title lettered in gilt on spine, silk page marker, printed slip-case, fine copy. The Norton Facsimile set a new standard for scholarly accuracy. It was the first facsimile in which every page had been selected from a large number of copies in an attempt to find a clean, clear example with minimal show-through. Even more important, it offered the latest, most corrected state of pages known to vary from copy to copy because of correction at press. Finally, it introduced a standard system of reference, "through line numbering," based on the lines printed in the 1623 edition rather than on the acts, scenes, and lines of a modern edition. These improvements, the meticulous work of the great Folio scholar Charlton Hinman made possible by the extensive Folger Library Collection, established The Norton Facsimile as an indispensable volume for book collectors and serious readers of Shakespeare.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. NR Fine/VG Slipcase, HB, Folio, 928 pgs. This is the deluxe First Edition (with publisher's original prospectus laid in) and in publisher's quarter red pebbled Morocco and red buckram over boards, in a red buckram matching slipcase which has several long drips to the rear slipcase board that reach to the bottom edge, creeping under the edge, leaving a dark stain for several inches. No warping and the drips can only be seen when viewed at an oblique angle in bright light, so therefore not obtrusive. TEG. Text block is unmarked and tight. The only flaw is a steeply inclined double fold crease to the actual First Folio title page that affects the lower right corner only in the margin and is now flattened out and unobtrusive. The gilt decorated spine with 4 raised bands is bright and clean with only a mild fray to the very top of the spine probably from finger pulls. All flaws in this copy are minor and unobtrusive. Due to it's great weight and very high postal rates for international posting, this volume is sold only within the US domestic market. All US buyers should query the seller for Insured Media Mail rate quotation.
