A major Cold War espionage novel by Leon Uris, Topaz fictionalizes the geopolitical tensions surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis through an international network of spies, diplomats, defectors, and intelligence operatives. The novel moves across Washington, Paris, Havana, and Moscow in classic Uris fashion - fast-paced, heavily researched, and politically charged. The book later served as the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1969 film adaptation. This copy retains its original typographic dust jacket and includes notable provenance elements: an Ex Libris ownership stamp on the front flyleaf and a surviving bookseller label from the 'Sino-American Dress Book Center,' 27 Chung-Ching Rd., Taichung, Taiwan, China, affixed to the rear flyleaf, reflecting interesting mid-century international circulation during the Cold War era. Book condition: Good overall. Binding is firm with clean pale green cloth and bright spine stamping; mild rubbing and soft bumping at extremities. Front free endpaper is lacking, but remaining text block is complete and sound. Interior shows light age toning and offsetting with no writing observed beyond the noted Ex Libris ownership stamp and Taiwan provenance label. Dust jacket condition: Fair only. Jacket exhibits heavy edgewear, creasing, rubbing, toning, large tears and losses at upper rear panel and spine ends, plus old tape reinforcement visible on the interior upper front jacket area. Jacket remains presentable. Leon Uris (1924-2003) was one of the twentieth century's best-selling historical novelists, known for combining sweeping political subjects with accessible narrative storytelling. His works - including Battle Cry, Exodus, Mila 18, and QB VII - helped popularize large-scale historical fiction centered on war, nationalism, espionage, and modern geopolitical conflict.
