First edition, first printing. Published by Hodder & Stoughton in London, 1945. Without the dust wrapper. The pastel blue buckram has some staining to the front panel, spine and rear. There is a slight lean and the spine tips are so slightly bumped. The corners are also slightly bumped. The text blocks are markedly clean and free from foxing, though slightly worn in places. There is a small previous owner's inscription on the preliminary end paper, signed "To Roger [.] Christmas 1944'. Overall, though lacking the dust wrapper, this is a clean example of a scarce title. The fourth title in Blyton's famed 'Famous Five' series.

A first edition, first printing published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1945. A very good book (or better) with a small name and date inscription to the rear of the front endpaper with a little spotting to the text block. Small patch of sunning to the foot of the spine. In a very good wrapper which is unclipped and has benefitted from some restorative repair to the spine tips and corners. The fourth installment of Enid Blyton's "Famous Five" series, siblings Julian, Dick, Anne, and George, along with their dog Timmy, spend their vacation at Kirrin Cottage. They stumble upon a mystery involving Smuggler's Top, a foreboding mansion near their cottage. The Five's curiosity is piqued when they hear rumours of strange activities and possible smugglers in the area. As they investigate, they discover secret passages, hidden compartments, and eerie occurrences within the mansion. Along the way, they befriend Tinker, a local boy who aids them in their quest to unveil the truth. The Five's relentless pursuit of adventure leads them into nighttime escapades and daring exploration of Smuggler's Top. Through teamwork and determination, they uncover the secrets of the mansion and solve the mystery, showcasing themes of friendship, bravery, and the thrill of discovery that are characteristic of the "Famous Five" series.
