Five rare self-help pamphlets in a block from a nonce volume by American phrenonologist L N Fowler, (Lorenzo Niles), 1811-1896, disbound, Fowler was a guru for other such early alternative remedies including mesmerism. He was a skull reader, who read the heads of Walt Whitman, Mark Twain and Clara Barton, and thousands of others, and came to England and set up the Fowler Institute at Ludgate Circus, London, 1863, near to the printer of these pamphlets in the Strand. Fowler founded in 1886 the Phrenological Institute which lasted until 1967.
