This poem is perhaps the most famous ode, lament, anti-war diatribe in human history. The poem was composed after the death of a close friend / soldier at Flanders & was first published in Punch magazine in December, 1915. Includes frontispiece archival photo of the Guelph-born physician / poet (1872 - 1918) protected with tissue guard. Also included an autograph facsimile of the war poem, other earlier poetry by McCrae, a sketch by him & a B&W photo. (ix) 141 pages. The second part of the book is a lengthy tribute to the shortened life of McCrae by friend Sir Andrew MacPhail entitled John McCrae - An Essay in Character.
