[Vancouver]: Fletcher Challenge Canada, including 31 pages of tipped-in color plates. Vividly illustrated, with tissue guards for each plate. Produced by Fletcher Challenge Canada in a Limited Edition of Five Hundred, of which this is number 165. Bound by Village Books & Bindery. The thirty-one works displayed in this book were chosen to give some sense of the variety as well as the underlying continuity of the Fletcher Challenge Canada Collection as a whole. The artists represented in the Company's collection take the inspiration for their art from across this country's diverse regions. In all their works, they show a consistent concern for the depiction of their own distinct notions and expressions of place and community. Collectively, however, the works do express a sense of the Canadian identity, one that is formed through the many traditions, both native and foreign, which make up Canada' cultural mosaic - from the final printed leaf. Includes artwork by Karoo Ashevak, Anne Meredith Barry, David Blackwood, Victor Cicansky, Alex Colville, Ken Danby, Robert Davison, Betty Davison, Ivan Eyre, Joe Fafard, Colette French, Charles Gagnon, Dorothy Grant, E.J. Hughes, Terence Johnson, Dorothy Knowles, William Kurelek, J. Fenwick Lansdowne, Jim McKenzie, Medrie Macphee, Robert Michener, Greg Murdock, Toni Onley, Jessie Oonark, Christopher Pratt, Mary Pratt, William Roberts, Jack Shadbolt, Gordon Smith, and David Thauberger.
