Thick 8vo, black quarter cloth with scarlet spine lettering over pale yellow boards, Mylar-protected pictorial dust jacket (unclipped) with eagle motif, xiii + [i} + 746 pages. Exceptional Condition! This remarkably wise and expansive volume covers much American history. A major study of the grand strategies that brought America from Colonial dependence to world leadership. Conrad Moffat Black, Baron Black of Crossharbour, KSG (born 1944) is a British former newspaper publisher and author. He is a non-affiliated life peer and very knowledgeable author. Previously, Black controlled Hollinger International, once the world's third-largest English-language newspaper empire. Hollinger published The Daily Telegraph (UK), Chicago Sun-Times (U.S.), The Jerusalem Post (Israel), National Post (Canada), most of the leading newspapers in Australia and Canada, and hundreds of community newspapers in North America, before he was fired by the corporate board of Hollinger in 2004. As a result of a shareholder-initiated prosecution, which asserted that Black was responsible for taking or spending more than $80-million in assets, he was convicted of fraud and obstruction in 2007 and sentenced to six and a half years' imprisonment. In 2011, two charges were overturned on appeal, and he was re-sentenced to 42 months in prison. Black was released in May, 2012, after serving 37 months in prison.
