Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate shelf wear with mild bumping and rubbing to corners and crushing and tearing to spine ends. All surfaces heavily tanned, particularly spine. Boards are slightly bowed.

Some wear to extremities and browning of title page edges and last page; otherwise a very good copy. Church St. address and 1929 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Frequent pencil underlinings and marginal comments. Illustrated by 12 colour plates, including frontispiece. Decorated by title page and chapter heading vignettes. A volume in Blackie's Beautiful England series, with text by Walter Jerrold (1865-1929), author,biographer and newspaper editor, who edited and compiled several other titles in the series. The paintings are by the artist, Ernest William Haslehust (1866-1949), landscape painter and book illustrator, who illustrated thirty six title in the series. A scarce title.
