Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'This poignant novel, originally published in French in 1935, is a lyrical evocation of the beauty, the harshness, and the tragedy of pioneering life. Based on the author's own experience of homesteading in northern Alberta at the beginning of the twentieth century, the novel tells the story of a young couple from France, who come to the West filled with naive optimism and romantic hope. Like Adam and Eve they end up being driven from their garden of paradise into a world of death and defeat.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 3rd Edition. This Is A 1970's Translation of a 1930's French language work about Peace River homesteaders. described by E.K. Brown of the Winnipeg Free Press as "the finest novel of the Canadian West . . . a literary work in which the materials of the frontier have been wrought into designs of lasting beauty. ." The translator, who has signed on the title page, describes a great deal of care and consultation on his part in order to do justice to the work. This is a slightly yellowed and at this point unread copy with some edge wear. I say 'unread at this point" because, although this seems to be a pretty obscure piece of Canadiana, the reviewer's superlatives and translator's remarks are too tempting for me to resist. Signed by Translator.
