English novel about a woman who's jilted by her first love, but goes on to make a successful marriage with another man -- until he's unfaithful to her, but then she forgives him. "We forget because we must," you see. But there's more: "And when her son goes to war; when her daughter grows up, sophisticated, attractive, headstrong, to marry the wrong man; when her second son throws over the ideals of his tradition for the loose and fast life of the younger generation -- Enid's life goes on." Sounds like this woman was dealt more than her fair share of necessary forgettin'.
