Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book follows the Leslies, a family living in a tranquil village. Mrs. Leslie, a woman of kindness and conscience, pours her energies into tending to the moral welfare of the parish. Meanwhile, her intellectual husband, Montagu, is enthralled by the literature of the past. Their contrasting perspectives on the present day and the changing social scene provide depth and warmth to the narrative. Despite their family's aloofness, the younger Leslies are deeply tied to the village, where they organize concerts and festivities for the community. Through their experiences, the novel offers insights into Edwardian society and the ways in which privilege and social obligation shape one's life. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
