Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The genesis of this book bears some explanation fortunately provided in detail by the Foreword-to wit: This book represents eleven poets who for four years issued most of their verse in a journal of poetry called The Fugitive. It was published in Nashville Tennessee?Matters went on until December 1925 they discontinued publication after having issued nineteen numbers of the magazine? This volume is a survey of the past; it may also be taken for a prospectus. (You will have to read the whole Foreword to fully appreciate the history of this book. I am very pleased to offer: Fugitives- An Anthology of Verse as published in book form apparently for the first time by Harcourt Brace and Company of New York dated 1928 and the First Edition. Please see the photos of the Table of Contents to see the full list of poets included in the group. The book is bound in paper-covered boards with a quarter spine in black cloth with a paper title panel paste-down on the spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust dulled and darkened on the margins and with fading from the sun to the colors of the boards and title panels. The corners and spine tips are lightly bumped. Inside a former owner has left her inked name and date on the front endpaper. The interior pages are clean and bright and without toning or foxing of any kind. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First edition. Quarter cloth and decorated papercovered boards. A defective copy, lacking the title leaf and two pages of introduction; a few pages of text are detached and the binding is heavily worn with the title inked on the paper spine label, and some paper residue on the rear endleaves. However it is an association copy of some note, being Southern author and critic George Marion O'Donnell's copy, with his owner name and Beloxi, Mississippi address on the front pastedown as well as a few pencil scorings in the text. An important anthology of Southern poetry, with contributions from Donald Davidson, William Yandell Elliott, James Marshall Frank, Stanley Johnson, Merrill Moore, John Crowe Ransom, Laura Riding, Alec Brock Stevenson, Allen Tate, Robert Penn Warren, and Jesse Wills.
