A very good, inscribed copy. From the library of Nathaniel Tarn, noted poet, translator, and aviation enthusiast, inscribed to him on the title page: "Nathaniel Tarn, All good wishes, Johnnie Johnson, 19:vi:94" A handsome copy of Johnson's potted history of air warfare, with the title describing Johnson's point that in the beginning fighter aircraft flew alone, then as aviation warfare developed they flew in pairs, and then "wings", during WW2 enormous wings of aircraft did battle against each other, however as air warfare has entered the jet age fighter pilots fly alone or in pairs again - and the day of the great wing or "circus", has passed.
