Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. First edition 1935 hardcover in green cloth covered boards with navy titles on spine and frt cover. Light sunning along board feet extending to 1/2" in frt lower gutter area from a now repaired chip. Smaller sunning spot at head of same frt gutter not a distraction. Spine ends bumped, tips still sharp. No names, tears or soil seen inside the tight, crisp 310pp text with several leaves uncut. Some foxing on fore-edge and foot of page block with head of same dyed blue. Original color illustrated dust wrapper drawn by Lane Foster shows a watermark at upper frt flap fold: 2" x 1/5" and small repairs at spine ends. A love story surrounding the 'Bird' family of Ireland, their children, and a long suffering admirer of the patriarch: Sir Julian Bird. Mentioned within are foxhunting/sporting events, as is usually the case with this equine-loving authoress who was born Mary Nesta Skrine in Kildare Ireland, and later, after her marriage, she was known as Molly Keane. She took the pen name of M. J. Farrell from a pub she used to frequently pass. Silverue -- an enchanting Irish mansion -- is owned by one of the most frightening mothers in fiction -- the indomitable, oppressively girlish Lady Bird. Blessed with wealth and beautiful children she has little to worry about except the passing of the years and the return of her son John's sanity. To help her through the potentially awkward occasion of John's return from the asylum she has enlisted the support of Eliza, a woman she believes to be her confidante. But Eliza has her own secrets and John's homecoming will prove the catalyst for revelations which Lady Bird would much rather leave buried.
