Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. This Very Good+ first edition is one of the great classic dog stories of all times. Names and dates of previous owners are written on the first endpaper; the endpapers also show some browning. A handsome depiction of Lad's head is embossed on the brown boards' front cover. There is a full-color frontispiece by Charles Livingston Bull. The facsimile dust jacket is a copy of the Grosset & Dunlap reprint, rather than a copy of the Doran editions, but it has the exact same image as the Doran. The dust jacket was actually produced by John Axe, the highly regarded author of histories of juvenile books, including All About Collecting Boys' Series Books and All About Collecting Girls' Series Books.
