The front paste down has a 1-1/4" wide slightly elevated stripe running the entire 9-1/2", at the spine where the front paste down bubbled up and did not adhere properly to the binding; the rear paste down has the same flaw but less severely and only for the bottom 3 inches of the book; these are clearly manufacturing defects and are visual rather than structural defects. Jacket is clean; no tears, folds or fading; raised letters of author's name and title on front panel evident (they have not been crushed); publisher's original price of "U.S.A. $30.00 / Canada $32.00" listed on the upper right corner of front flap. Condition of book and jacket consistent with being new and not read. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no previous owner markings or inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Very legibly signed by author (he signed 1000 copies starting an hour before this event) in black ball point pen on the half-title page beneath the title (see photo). Signed prior to a 7 PM talk about this book at Saint Louis County (Missouri) Library headquarters on February 9, 2013, followed by a short session answering written questions submitted by the 850 member audience.
