Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. Charmingly inscribed in ballpoint ink on its front end paper: "Best wishes -- and some beautiful Witches to Alvin Germenhausen from Fritz Leiber". This is the 2nd US edition, the 1951 Grosset & Dunlap "Science-Fiction Classics" publication, which adds a new introduction by Groff Conklin, and a dust jacket with a re-colored green version of the Timmins jacket art from the 1950 Pellegrini & Cudahy first edition. The book is in very good+ condition, marred only by a bump at bottom of the spine, light bumps to the top front & back corners, a trace of lean, and some fading to the green cloth boards and the green topstain on the text block. Its binding is sound, with no crease in the spine. Covers are unmarked, with just a little normal age toning on the pastedowns and end papers. Pages are unworn and, other than the author's inscription, unmarked. The dust jacket, now protected by a removable mylar cover, is in good+ condition, marred by a 3/4" chip out of the back bottom edge, wear with short closed tears at top and bottom of the spine, a 1.5" closed tear with chipping in the bottom of the back flap fold, and traces of rubbing and light soiling on the back. Despite these flaws, it presents beautifully, with bright, unmarked, and nearly unworn artwork on its front and spine. As with all Space Age Book purchases, I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its proud new owner in the same condition as my description.
