Da ist seine zukunftsweisende Kunst unter dem Terrorregime Stalins längst nicht mehr gefragt. Nach Hitlers Überfall auf die Sowjetunion wird Sophie mit ihrem jüngsten Sohn nach Sibirien verbannt. Ein Leben in unvorstellbarer Armut kann diese starke Frau nicht beugen. Dass ihre Kunstsammlung 1937 vom Bildersturm der Nazis hinweg gefegt wird, dass ihre geliebten Bilder verschollen und verscherbelt sind, erfährt sie erst viele Jahre später.
