Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine Corners Bumped. 1st Edition. As the great city of New York moves, changes, and evolves every day, the few remnants of its past go unnoticed. New York City's "ghost signs" advertisements painted across the facades of buildings that date back to the 19th centuryare often invisible to the busy New Yorker, but defiantly conspicuous if only we turn our eyes and look upwards. These faded representations of the city's rich economic and social history are slowly disappearing before our eyes, but not before they were captured by this photographer's lens. Book.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Evanston, IL: Clark Publishing Company, 1951. The August-September, 1951 issue of Fate Magazine, Volume 4, Number 6, a scarce issue in Raymond A. Palmer's now-legendary paranormal-reporting non-fiction enterprise, which began with, in its first issue, Kenneth Arnold's cover account of flying crescents which "skipped like saucers across a pond", an event which, for whatever reason, kicked off the modern era of UFO events. After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. 12mo, illustrated stapled wraps, 130 pp. Very Good Plus, and not at all far from Near Fine; spine shows a bit of fade, and there is sporadic micro-edgewear at the covers. See scans. Even the standard 50's-pulps toning to the interior pages is quite moderate here, and of course the pages remain supple. See scans. High grade condition for a periodical which often shows substantial wear from use. Uncredited cover art shows one of the Trance Dancers of Bali, one of the many pieces on the paranormal herein. See the scanned image of the contents page for the articles herein, which cover such topics as those Trance Dancers of Bali; Wolf Children; Seaforths; Foo Fighters; Banshees; Carolina Ghost Ship; Scroll Writing of Atlantis; Seances; New Theory of Psychic Phenomena; Big Horn Mystery Medicine Wheel; Lost Race of America;and a Disappearing Roof. Of course much, much else is here, including the standard Departments, always engrossing in themselves - everything on diversified paranormal or inexplicable phenomena. Interior art and photography is largely uncredited. A piece of paranormal history, and an example of a unique branch of Americana, in very highly collectible condition. A particularly absorbing and very scarce issue. Please see scans. L80.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. A rather amazing publication in that it starts of with an intro by the producer of the film THE GHOST GOES WEST, continues with an essay on screenwriting by Margrave which is about 35 pages. Then the story that inspired the film by Eric Keown is reproduced, followed by a three page essay by the director of the film, RENE CLAIR, followed by a reproduction of the first treatment and finally the finished scenario (which seems to be derived from what is known as a continuity, not a shooting script. Along the way there are four b&w photos. Condition is ONLY GOOD--spine lean, mild foxing. In ONLY GOOD dust jacket with some small chips and wear, vertical creases to front and rear panels. Nevertheless, an uncommon book especially in dust jacket.

HBDJ, 1976, 1st edition, 1st Printing, with #1 Intact Copyright pg, NF/NEARFINE, Flap $8.95 , DJ Cover Design by Alan Daniel, NOT EX-LIBRARY, 211 PGS, Beige cloth with black cloth spine & Gold Gilt Titles, Truly wonderful condition with the sole exception that some of the blue coloring on the spine has flaked off; just this flaw and not the result of any damage, neither bumping nor water. I personally believe it's the result of the choice of materials made by the publisher. I have listed this as simply "very good" due to the flaking; without this, I would list it as "fine." Dust jacket is in fine condition with mylar cover. Hinges and binding are all tight and sound. Beautiful appearance on any bookshelf. A sound and attractive copy. McFarlane describes his early years as a journalist, through his years with the Stratemeyer Syndicate, and beyond. Surprisingly uncommon, in 1926, when 23 yr. old cub Reporter answered an AD for a fiction Writer, he had no Inkling of bizarre writing Career that Lay ahead.
