Contact seller5-star sellerdj. Later printing. INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper: "To Bruce Gould / There is only one sin that life never will forgive us: our unwillingness not to tell truly about; the punishment for us is oblivion / Sincerely yours / O.E. Rölvaag." Bruce Gould and his wife Beatrice Blackmar Gould were co-editors of the "Ladie…s Home Journal" from 1935 through 1962. It was under their leadership that the magazine became the top-selling women's magazine in the country for nearly 30 years, largely due to their efforts to modernize the journal and broaden its subject matter for the emancipated woman. The pair co-wrote the autobiography, "American Story: Memories and Reflections of Bruce Gould and Beatrice Blackmar Gould," published by Harper and Row in 1968. Very Good lacking the dust jacket. Boards with light toning to the extremities and spine, and light fraying at the crown. Endpapers and page edges moderately foxed. Signed.

Matching volumes of reddish brown cloth with an embossed dark design and stamped gold name and title to the spines. Marbled page edges, books measure 5 1/4 inches by 7 3/8 inches. Both volumes are First Editions and…printed in Norwegian. Verdens Grode (Giants in The Earth) is a the translated combination of the two Norwegian novels about a Norwegian pioneer family's struggle with the land and elements of the Dakota Territory as they try to make a new life in America. The book is based partly on Rolvaag's personal experiences as a settler and on the experiences of his wife's family who had been immigrant homesteaders. the novel depicts snow storms, locusts, poverty, hunger, loneliness, homesickness, the difficulty of fitting into new culture, and the estrangement of immigrant children who grew up in a new land. In Very Good overall condition. Original brown cloth shows some light spotting and scuffing. Corner and light edge wear. Light toning and soiling to the marbled page edges. Small erased and pencil notation with (old) pricing to the front end page of each book. Toning to the first free page as well as along the border of the end page of I de Dage volume as well as the beginning of separation at the title page (see photo). The other volume also has some light toning to the first free page. Later translated to English in 1927. Rolvaag was both a novelist and a professor at St. Olaf College. He was knighted in the Order of St, Olav by the King Haakon VII in 1926. Rolvaag died in 1931 at the age of 55, Verdens Grode was his most noted work.
