Trade paperback. Condition: Very good. Inscribed by Kathy Kohner Zuckerman to Howie Pyro on the half-title, with Kohner Zuckerman's business card laid in. Dubbed the "Patron Saint of the Weird" by Village Voice, Howie Pyro (born Howard Kusten, 1960-2022) was a veteran of the New York punk and underground scenes, best known for his work with D Generation and Danzig. Kohner (1905-86), a Viennese-born Hollywood screenwriter, based this story of an intrepid teenage girl who learns to surf on his daughter Kathy's experiences on the Malibu beaches during the 1950s. Following a film adaptation starring Sandra Dee in 1959, and five motion picture sequels, along with the popular television series (1965-66) featuring Sally Field, Gidget has become permanently entrenched as an icon of the American surfing culture. Introduction by Deanne Stillman. Octavo: vxiii, 154 p. with textual photographs. Original pictorial paper wrappers. A very good copy.

Later Edition - Paperbound. Signed and inscribed by Kathy Kohner: ÒTo Dennis - Many Long Beach memories!! Love & Aloha, Kathy Kohner, GidgetÓ. About fine with a trace of handling in printed wraps. The charming story of Franzie, aka Gidget, a young girl desperately trying to grow up, living on the beach near Malibu who adores surfing, boys, and her dad - not necessarily in that order. The basis for the TV series starring Sally Field, and numerous big screen and television movies. The front panel of the dust jacket is a photograph of a smiling adolescent girl wearing a modest one piece bathing suit, carrying a surf board.
