Dr. Talbott having been one of the leading students of this disease for the past twenty years, is especially well qualified to write this monograph on gout. He defines gout as a metabolic dyscrasia associated with an increased concentration of uric acid in the blood and body fluids. Gouty arthritis, on the other hand, refers to the articular manifestations, acute or chronic, resulting from the metabolic abnormality.
