Helias Putschius, actually Elias von Putschen or Elias van Putschen, Elias von Putsch, Elias von Putz and various other similar names (November 6, 1580 in Antwerp, March 9, 1606 in Stade) was a Dutch poet, philologist and historian. The first significant publication was an edition of the Writings of Sallust in 1602, which was reprinted several times over the course of the century. Three years later he published his most important work, Grammaticae latinae autores antiqui, with a compilation of the ancient Latin grammarians. For some writings it was the first printed publication. He only used manuscripts for the work. In the 19th century, the 1400 pages had to be divided into several sub-volumes for new editions. In another writing he wanted to explain his own philological achievements in a commentary. However, this never happened due to his early death at the age of 25. In his short life, however, Putschius was able to produce a noteworthy scientific achievement. Putschius' work stands at the transition between two forms of reception. Until his work, the ancient Latin grammarians were regarded as the authorities on the Latin language, and since Putschius their writings have been actively studied. Until Martin Hertz and Heinrich Keil published the Grammatici Latini in seven volumes between 1855 and 1880, Putschius' work was the reference work in his field for more than 250 years. Not in ABPC. Rare. MK2. Dedicatoria autógrafa del autor.
