Hardcover. Condition: Good. Hardcover, 604 pages. Binding has cracked along front hinge, with cloth showing through. Rear hinge is loose, but board is not detached. Pages remain tight and secure, with no loose leaves. Brown cloth boards show moderate wear. Corners are worn, with cardboard showing through cloth. Foot and crown of spine softened, and beginning to fray. Pictorial board shows a gilded angel pointing to the sun. Gilt is still shiny, and the picture is intricately detailed. All edges of text block tinted red. Endpapers are clean, illustrated with a pattern of small lyres. Though there is a scuff to the fore edge of the text block, all pages remain clean and free of stray marks or handwritten notes. Richly illustrated with black and white engraved plates, many of which are full-page. Subjects include portraits of Socrates, the Rising of Lazarus, and the Ascension.
