Issued in softcover only, a farming novel set in Oklahoma in the late 19th century (from the Preface: "There were at that time no telephones, no Free Delivery, no gravelled or paved roads.'Dirt Roads,' which often were dusty in the summer, sometimes muddy, and occasionally impassable during periods in the winter and spring, were prevalent. There were no automobiles in this area, no home plumbing, no electric lights, radios and, of course, no T.V. sets. Some of these services were established during the time of this story. Transportation was by railroad, by boats, by horseback, by horsedrawn wagons, by carriages, and by top buggies. Homes were lighted by kerosene lamps. Water was pumped from wells or drawn from cisterns in some cases, except where there were springs. Homes were heated and food cooked almost entirely with wood used as fuel").
