Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Hardcover, 180 pgs. Signed edition. Sealed, new. Alone Street brings together two major bodies of work by Gregory Crewdson, Cathedral of the Pines (Aperture, 2016) and An Eclipse of Moths (Aperture, 2020), in a single, elegant monograph. Both series expand on the artist's obsessive exploration of the psychogeography of small-town, post-industrial New England and underscore the precision and depth of Crewdson's unique mode of photographic storytelling. In each image, light, color, and carefully crafted scenography evoke the feeling that, as art historian Alexander Nemerov has astutely described, "all that ever happened in these places seems crystallized in his tableaux, as if the quiet melancholy of Crewdson's scenes gathered the unruly sorrows and other little-guessed feelings of people long-gone who once stood on those spots.". Hardcover in Leinen. 313 x 217 mm. 160 Seiten. 71 Fotos (29 in Triplex). Text: Craig Burnett, Gregory Crewdson, Jens Erdman Rasmussen, Felix Hoffmann, Estelle af Malmborg. Layout: Naroska Design, Gregory Crewdson. Still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil; only opened once for signature! Hardcover in linen with jacket. 393 x 311 mm. 96 pages, 41 photos in Triplex. Introduction by A.O. Scott. Design by Sarah Gifford. Text in german. Perfect condition! Signed by the artist! Collector`s copy! "While visiting Rome, world-renowned photographer Gregory Crewdson was invited to tour the legendary Italian film studio Cinecittà, where directors such as Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini shot their iconic works. He found the elaborate film sets had fallen into ruin and was captivated by their decaying beauty. He knew immediately that he had found his next project. While Crewdson?s earlier series were enormously elaborate and required massive production crews, custom-built sound stages, and hired actors, he returned to Rome with only a small team and worked mostly with available lighting to create haunting black-and-white portraits of crumbling façades and deserted streets. However, all this does not really indicate a break with his earlier series, for the dramatic subtext so often found in his photographs, the uncanny feeling that they bring the past back to life, remains."
