Januar 1924 in Dijon, Frankreich; ? 21. D. in Physiologie. // Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// Standort Wimregal Ill-Umschl2018-2 WITHIN THE EU: shipping only to GERMANY and AUSTRIA due to the new EPR regulations. Add to basketCondition: Very Good. v, 266 pp; photos. Original cloth. Very Good. First Edition. SIGNED BY BARUJ BENACERRAF TO ROGER GUILLEMIN: "A Roger Guillemin/ en toute amitié/ Baruj Benacceraf." With a loose printed card "From the Private Collection of/ Dr. Roger & Lucienne Guillemin/ Nobel Laureate, 1977/ Salk Institute, La Jolla, CA" (see photo). THE TWO NOBEL LAUREATES: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1980 was awarded jointly to Baruj Benacerraf, Jean Dausset and George D. Snell "for their discoveries concerning genetically determined structures on the cell surface that regulate immunological reactions". The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1977 was divided, one half jointly to Roger Guillemin and Andrew V. Schally "for their discoveries concerning the peptide hormone production of the brain" and the other half to Rosalyn Yalow "for the development of radioimmunoassays of peptide hormones." The 22 chapter headings in the book: Introduction. Benacerraf Family Background. Childhood and Adolescence in Paris. New York, Columbia University. Meeting Annette. Medical College of Virginia. Marriage with Annette. Internship, Army training. Army Medical Officer in France. Introduction to Science in Kabat's Laboratory, Birth of Beryl. Broussais Hospital, Paris. New York University. My experience as a Banker. National Institutes of Health. Harvard Medical School. Nobel Prize. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I am a Grandfather. The Training Experience. Reflections on Medicine. Education and Academia. AIDS. Conclusions. NOTE ABOUT AVAILABILITY OF SIGNED COPIES: As a self-published book, I think it is likely that quite a few copies were inscribed by Benacerraf. At the time I am putting this copy online, there are two other copies, one of which is inscribed, so now there will be two out of three copies that are inscribed. So the distinguishing features among available copies might not be signed vs. not signed so much as to whom a copy is inscribed. A copy inscribed to another Nobel laureate (Roger Guillemin in this case) is a very nice association. Signed by Author(s). …

SIGNED BY ROGER GUILLEMIN (on the recto of the Frontispiece). Offprint of Roger Guillemin's Nobel Lecture, December 8, 1977. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1977 was divided, one half jointly to Roger Guillemin and Andrew V. Schally "for their discoveries concerning the peptide hormone production of the brain" and the other half to Rosalyn Yalow "for the development of radioimmunoassays of peptide hormones." "Hormones are substances that convey signals between different parts of the body and regulate their functions. Around the pituitary in the brain, releasing hormones serve to release other hormones and are formed around the pituitary gland. The releasing hormones occur in very small amounts. From large quantities of pig brains and lamb brains respectively, Roger Guillemin and Andrew Schally separately extracted a sufficient amount of releasing hormone to determine its structure in 1969. They subsequently were able to produce it with chemical methods" (Nobel Prize website) . …
