Light scuffing to the leather extremities (the leather binding has recently been professionally replenished and treated with a natural leather preserver). Leaves uniformly without blemish, and free of any markings, one 6" very neat closed tear to the left margin of plate No. 2 (p. 272) (no loss), otherwise, the remainder of the plates are without blemish, tears, or deficiencies. Numbered Limited Edition this one number 48, with the illustrations in three states, the first within the text, the second reproduced in colour and the third in monochrome, the latter two states bound in at the rear of the volume. Full blue-green coarse grained morocco binding by Belgian master bindery of 'Weckesser et Ses Fils' with the name stamped in gilt at the foot of the decorated full leather pastedown. Housed in a matching slipcase. The spine is ever so slightly faded, the boards with quadruple gilt filet, the magnificent paste downs are full yellow leather with blue leather onlays and gilt decoration, marbled end papers and gilt page edges. The slipcase is beautifully crafted in marbled paper and matching leather opening. The illustrator, Mossa [1883-1971] began as a Symbolist painter. His work here is reminiscent of his Anglo-French contemporary, Edmund Dulac. Pagination: illustrated cover, illustration with limitation page to verso, frontispiece, title, half title with Approbabtion to the reverse, VIII, 236pp, colophon, [1]pp; 48 pages of illustrations in colour; 48 pages of illustrations in monochrome; the spine, front cover, and rear cover bound in. Eléazar de Mauvillon (1712-79) was professor at Braunschweig. With the fine engraved portrait of Gustave Adolph (Gustav II Adolf), engraved by Paul Pontius after Ant. van D˙ck. Warmholtz uttalar sig positivt om Mauvillion och anser att detta verk, ehuru ej utan brister, dock vida överträffar Hartes motsvarande arbete. Gjörwell gav ut en ofullbordad svensk översättning 1764-65. En tysk översättning utkom 1775-77. De två extra gravyrerna, varav en karta över Stockholm, kommer från något annat arbete.
