There is a four page "short notice" of Alfred Cox's life and career and the listings are divided into four sessions, two sessions for each day of the auction. There are no "prices realized" with this catalog. ; Illustrations from black & white photos; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Unpaginated pages; Cox (1835-1910) was born in England and immigrated to the U. S. As a young teenager. He learned the book binding trade and in 1861, set up his own bindery in Chicage, which became the largest bindery west of NYC, until the Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed his business. He rebuilt his business and earned the title "Master Binder." Cox was also a preminent collector of books and turned his study into an "Attic Library" of fine bindings, literary rareties, special editions, etc. The books offered at this sale were from Cox's private collection.
