Contents include glossary of "Idiomatic Phrases" - English equivalents of Lakotah terms for geological features, animals, and plants. A machine copy of the first proposed dust jacket with the author in her younger days is laid inside the back cover. The inscription, presumably in the author's hand, states - "You might like to see this copy of the first edition dust jacket. Doubleday changed the jacket, the editor saying I looked too young to have worked 25 years on Hanta Yo. I had worked 18 years on the book at that picture time." The present dust jacket has a picture of the author in her later years on the back. Inscribed and signed by the author on the half title page.
