Colored 2-page illustration forn the title page, black and white illustrations throughout. Illustrated pastedowns and endpapers. Textured green boards have soiling. Bruising to the base of the spine. Bumped corner. Foxing and toning to the bottom of the pageblock. A gift inscription dated in 1940 is on the first free endpaper. The first sequel to Heidi, written by Johanna Spyri's translator. Where possible, all books come with dust jacket in a clear protective plastic sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box.

Condition: Fair. 1956. First Edition. 128 pages. Blue pictorial dust jacket over red cloth. Pages and binding are presentable with common faults. Text is legible throughout. Some issues present such as cracking, inscriptions, inserts, moderate foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and tanning. Unclipped jacket has moderate edge wear with tears, chips, and some areas of loss. Noticeable rubbing and marking. Light tanning to spine and edges.

Provenance: Ex Libris Iva B. Baker (1943). Warm, personal inscription on the front endpaper, dated July 29, 1943, given at age 82 from Iva B. Baker to her four granddaughters Debbie, Linda, Judy and Beth on the occasion of their parents' wedding anniversary. A continuation of Johanna Spyri's beloved Heidi, written by her translator Charles Tritten, this 1938 Grosset & Dunlap edition was the first English publication of the sequel. Heidi is here seen as a young woman, teaching and growing into adulthood. Richly illustrated with color plates by Jean Coquillot, this is a scarce early edition with touching provenance.
