[CALIFORNIA]. First edition. 8vo. Inscribed by the author. Pictorial wrappers, 109 pp., author's note, foreword, illustrated. The author spent 25 months of his 18 years imprisonment on "The Rock," where he witnessed riots and killings and attempted breaks and mingled with the most dangerous and desperate men of the day. He wrote this little book and sold it as he did his job as a guide on Treasure Island that was converted for the Golden Gate International Exposition. He knew many of the criminals of the day and has much to say about Alvin Karpis, Al Capone, "Machine Gun" Kelly, and others. Six Guns 806 says, "Scarce." "These little books on life in Alcatraz were sold by the author while he was serving as a guide at the Golden Gate Exposition. He was a latter-day train robber." Covers lightly used else a very good copy.
