Ralph Hubert "Sonny" Barger, Jr. (1938 ? 2022) was an American outlaw biker, author and actor who was a founding member of the Oakland, California chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club in 1957. Barger features prominently in Hunter S. Thompson's book, Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (1966). The page block has browning, which is typical for a book of this age and there is a previous owner's name and address on the front and rear paste downs. There is a unattached bookplate laid in Signed by the author with a COA included. The mylar protected DJ is price-intact ($4.95) and has generalized edge wear with one very small open tear to a corner of the head of the spine and two small closed tears also to the head of the spine. Aside from a minuscule quarter-inch closed tear on the top of the dust jacket front cover, a brilliant, truly fine example of this iconic classic, made even more memorable as not only is it boldly signed by Thompson with his usual HST initials but enclosed in the H of his initials he has also printed his name HUNTER. Additionally enclosed in the copy is an early 5x7" black-and-white photo of Thompson with a very young Johnny Depp. Copy comes in a custom cloth slipcase. .

This night would be the second ever meeting of Johnny Depp and Thompson He [Depp] was now determined to bring Thompson to the big screen and make the character Raoul Duke his own.
