Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Second printing, with a 2 on the copyright page. Signed by the author in blue ink on the dedication page: "Harry B. Ellis." Ex-library (Sherborn, Massachusetts), with library stamps on the front endpaper and title page, and top and bottom page edges. The dust jacket is not… price-clipped (original price $5.00) and does not have a library sticker on the spine, but the front and rear flaps have been cut and taped back into place. The book has edgewear on the boards and spine, and wear at the corners. Overall a mixed bag but the text is an interesting mid-century perspective on the Middle East. Brodart-protected. Add to basketWraps. Condition: Very Good. The High Desert Museum, Published 2004. Wraps, 37 pp.; 28 cm; illustrated with color photographs by Charles A. Blakeslee and Kurt Markus and with historical black-and-white photographs. In Very Good condition. Pictorial wraps, the cover a studio portrait of the buckaroo Frank Morgan in chaps and spur…s, taken about 1930; mild shelf and edge wear, with light bumping to the edges and corners and a small nick at the foot of the spine. Staple bound, binding tight. Inscribed and signed by the author on the title page, thanking the recipient for his friendship and for the hours he spent helping to make High Desert history come to life, signed "Bob." Pages otherwise clean and unmarked. Catalog of the High Desert Museum exhibition that ran in Bend, Oregon from June 14, 2003 through October 23, 2004, and reopened in February 2005 at the Western Folklife Center in Elko, Nevada. Written by the museum's Western History Curator, Robert Boyd, it was the third in the museum's trilogy of cultural-history exhibits, following Gum San on the Chinese in the West and Amerikanuak on the Basques. The buckaroo of northern Nevada, southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon is not the cowboy of the Great Plains: he is the direct descendant of the Spanish vaquero, and his long rawhide reata, dalla vuelta roping style, spade bit, hackamore and tapaderos trace back through the Californios and the conquistadores to the Moorish and Arab horsemen of North Africa, which is what Boyd means by horsemen across three continents. The chief draw is the photography. Kurt Markus (1947-2022), whose Buckaroo: Images from the Sagebrush Basin (1987) put these horsemen in front of a national audience before he went on to shoot for Harper's Bazaar, Calvin Klein and Armani, served as an advisor to the exhibit and supplied its contemporary range photographs; Charles A. Blakeslee supplied the landscape work. Also reproduced are historical photographs of Rafael "Chappo" Remudas at the P Ranch about 1890, the Spanish Ranch and Miller & Lux crews, chuckwagons and roundup camps, and vaquero gear from museum and family collections. Contents: Horseman Across Three Continents; Vaqueros in the High Desert; Passing on Traditions; On the Range and at the Ranch; Making a Home on the Sagebrush Sea; Buckaroos for a New Millennium.
