Morgan Dennis, 1930s. An etching on a single sheet, titled in pencil and signed by Morgan Dennis below the image. Also with a printed signature and the date 1926 in the plate. The image measures about 3.25 x 5 inches, on a sheet measuring about 5 x 7.5 inches. Paper is a bit yellowed, old pin holes in the edges of the sheet (not near image), nice condition otherwise. One of many adorable dog etchings by Morgan Dennis. Dennis published a book in 1943 titled: The Pup Himself, about a dog looking very much like this one.

Hardcover. Condition: g to vg. Second printing before publication. Octavo. Unpaginated. [44]pp. Original illustrated dust-jacket over illustrated paper covered boards. Half title inscribed, signed, with a delightful sketch of "the Pup" by Morgan Dennis. Illustrated title. "The Pup Himself" tells the adventures of an abandonned Scotch Terrier on his quest for breakfast. Minor and sporadic rubbing along edges of dust-jacket, with two small closed tears along upper edge of front cover, and one closed tear at head of spine. Head and tail of spine of binding slightly rubbed. DJ in overall good, binding in goo+, interior in very good condition. About the artist: Morgan Dennis (1892-1960) was an American illustrator and author known primarily for his paintings of dogs. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Long Island, New York. He studied art with William Harry Warren Bicknell. He was commissioned by the Black and White Scotch Whiskey Company to illustrate the "Black and White Scotties", a successful ad campaign used over many years. One of his murals, "The Dog House", is in the bar and lounge of the Sheraton Russell Hotel in New York. He also competed in art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but did not win a medal.
