Condition: Good. 1957. 182 pages. Blue pictorial dust jacket over blue cloth. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Light tanning to spine and edges. The unclipped dust jacket has moderate edge wear, tears and chips to edges and spine ends. Light tanning to spine and edges.

Condition: Good. Twelfth Edition Revised. 204 pages. Photographic dust jacket over blue paper covered boards. Light thumb marking, foxing and tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Binding is slightly loose but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier staining and tanning with soft crushing to ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Unclipped dust jacket with moderate rubbing, chipping and tearing to edges. Moderate tanning and scuffing overall.

The book is a historic gem. 402 hints and tips provide a glimpse into motorcycling more than a hundred years ago. The book shows the sort of wear one would expect from a book of its age, especially to the edges of the back board and to the hinge joints. Probably due the quality of paper used, as well as the book's age, there is considerable toning to the page block and to certain pages and pages edges. However in terms of marks, underlinings etc. the pages are remarkably clear and unmarked. Notwithstanding a historic repair with sellotape to the rear gutter, the spine and page block remain firm and tight. An intriguing little book and a historical curio.

Dark blue cloth boards with illustrated title paneltipped onto front cover and titles in black to somewhat faded spine. No inscriptions. Covers slightly bumped to extremities with slight toning to illustration. Original Cambridge bookseller's label pasted to inside fep. Pages tanned but in excellent clean and tight condition. For an enthusiast, a real little treasure!

Browning to endpapers with a chip at the top edge of the ffep and a small bit of insect damage to the rear endpapers. One of the index leaves is detached and has a short closed tear at the outer edge.

Reprint (undated, but c.1919). 12mo., blue clothbound hardback, with remains of pictorial title label to upper cover; unnumbered pages with 402 hints and tips and 3 text figures + 6pp index marks and contemporary adverts + 5pp index. Previous owner's in name and inscription to ffep, and date (1919) to half-title. Some staining to edges, pages edges rather browned and soiled, boards rather soiled and edgeworn, bleached area to rear cover. A Sound study copy overall. The 13th edition of Hints and Tips for Motor Cyclists, published by Iliffe & Sons Ltd in 1955, is a vintage guide originally compiled by the staff of The Motor Cycle magazine. Authored under the pseudonym "Road Rider," it served as a practical manual for the care, maintenance, and operation of motorcycles from that era. There is some wear to the boards and the corners are a little bumped. The front endpaper is covered in pencil markings and at least one flyleaf has been removed, meaning the first page is the title page. This has caused some damage to the binding at the beginning of the book, but it is fairly tight nonetheless. There is some discolouration to the tops of the last few pages.
